We are an un-auditioned choir. We have members from every level of interest and abilities – from those happy to sing in the choir ranks, to brave soloists and professionally trained vocalists. We love the connection of singing together. You are welcome at any time to try us at a trial rehearsal, and see what you think!

Our schedule

Our rehearsals follow three sessions, 8-10 weeks long. There is a bonus Christmas session at the end of the year. We generally start new repertoire each term and work towards concert performance. Every concert includes full choir performances, solo opportunities, and some small group ensembles.

Our committee

Ignite Choir is run by an enthusiastic volunteer committee under the guidance of Harmony Woollett, our Artistic Director. Please ask any of our committee members if you have any questions.

Our fees

Membership fees are $80 per person, each session. Membership helps to cover the cost of purchasing and licensing music, equipment, venues and support for the choir. Fees are due by the third week of each term. If you have difficulty with meeting the fee commitment, please talk with our treasurer for other payment arrangements.

When you first join Ignite Choir, you also pay a $20 music library deposit. This deposit covers the cost of any lost music assets. The full deposit is redeemable when you leave the choir if you have returned your music back to the library each term.

We provide online recordings of the different vocal parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) via SoundCloud so members can listen and practice outside of choir times, if they wish. Many people in the choir don’t read music, but Harmony’s direction and support make singing in a choir accessible and fun. Join in at the level you feel comfortable, or challenge yourself!

I love this choir! Where do I sign up?

New members are invited to register before attending a session. The registration link will be available on our main page.

In the meantime come and check us out in concert. Tickets are available for the Choir Classics Concert via the home page.

Why us?

At Ignite, we are a friendly, inclusive and supportive group of people with a passion for music - and in particular, singing. We encourage and involve everyone in whatever capacity they are able.

The choir is perfect for beginners to come and experience being a part of a singing group, without pressure. We don't expect you to be able to memorise all the music, or have vocal technique know-how. But if you are more experienced, we include solo opportunities for the more confident members.

At ignite, it is all about singing for fun - and having a go at performing. As we began as part of Ignatians Musical Society, we believe in their slogan: "For the sheer fun of it"!

Every year, we perform up to 5 times in some form of concert or involvement in musical projects. Some themes have included:

  •  Cabaret evenings - 80s, 70s, 60s, Love Cabaret
  •  War & Peace - 100 years of Anzac
  •  Showstoppers from the Oscars/Broadway
  •  Rodgers & Hammerstein Hits
  •  Magical Music for Kids - the delights of Disney and others
  •  Jazz
  •  Christmas with Brisbane Bells
  •  Potted Pirates: Pirates of Penzance in Concert - with a twist!

We vary our styles of concerts and repertoire to make our performances enjoyable for the audience. Experienced or confident singers can audition to be a soloist at most of the performances but this is not compulsory. We work with talented musicians and various ensembles around Brisbane to enhance our performances. If this sounds like what you are looking for, we encourage you to come and meet us, to see what Ignite Choir is all about.
